What Are Cataracts?

A cataract is a clouding of the normally clear lens of your eye. Cataracts gradually prevent light from reaching your retina, the back layer of your eye that processes images to send to the brain. Instead, the light that enters your eyes becomes scattered, blurred and distorted, resulting in a gradual deterioration of your vision. When not properly treated, cataracts can lead to vision loss or even blindness. While there is no cure for cataracts, cataract surgery is a very common and effective procedure to restore clear vision. At Pacific Eye Institute, enhanced vision after cataract surgery is a possibility.

Symptoms of Cataracts

People may not realize they have a cataract because it doesn’t significantly affect their vision, or the cataract has gradually grown over time. When symptoms begin to interfere with daily life, however, it’s a great time to consider cataract surgery in the Inland Empire.

Is Cataract Surgery covered by insurance?

Basic Cataract Surgery (monofocal lenses) that allow you to see well at one distance are typically covered by insurance, while premium lenses are paid for out-of-pocket. Financing is available for these upgraded lens packages. Request an appointment today to learn more about pricing!

Cataract Surgery Technology

Modern cataract surgery is much different from the cataract surgery of the past! Unlike traditional cataract surgery involving hand-held metal blades, Pacific Eye Institute offers the option to use a computer-guided laser for patients who could benefit from this alternative technology. Combined with the Lensx Laser, ORA (Optiwave Refractive Analysis) technology optimizes replacement lens selection and alignment for optimized astigmatism correction and visual outcome.

All these combined technologies are life changing for many patients and enable a great deal of lifestyle flexibility.  In addition, this procedure is typically a 30-minute outpatient procedure we perform in our Surgery Center.

Lens replacement options

During  cataract surgery, the natural clouded lens is replaced with an artificial lens called an intraocular lens (IOL). There's a variety of IOL types to choose from — all with different benefits and choosing the right IOL can be a difficult decision. At Pacific Eye, we'll help guide you to an informed decision that best fits your budget and your lifestyle. A thorough discussion with our team of experts is the critical final step.

Advanced technology lens implants and precise measurement combinations can offer a wide spectrum of vision improvement including near, intermediate and far vision. Imagine being able to read the newspaper, drive at night or play golf without the use of glasses! Whichever lens you choose, cataract eye surgery combined with lens replacement can be life changing.
