About

Dr. Peter Bekendam has over 20 years of experience and has been a part of our team since 2016. He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and specializes in cataract and anterior segment surgery, glaucoma procedures, and comprehensive ophthalmology. He has performed over 20,000 procedures in the greater Inland Empire.

While he offers the latest technological advances in cataract surgery, Dr. Bekendam takes care to explain all available options to his patients, works to understand their interests, and allows time to develop a plan that matches their individual needs. He makes sure to explain what is covered by insurance and to disclose the costs and benefits available from technology that is not covered by insurance. He has a special interest in the topic of medical ethics as it relates to advanced technology in cataract surgery and enjoys delivering lectures on this subject to physicians in training and community optometrists.

In addition to his role at Pacific Eye Institute, Dr. Bekendam currently serves as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Loma Linda University Medical Center. He is the Founder and President of Sight Restoration International, a non-profit organization which works to bring vision-restoration surgery to patients in developing countries. He was honored to be elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society while in medical school.

He loves to spend time with his family, travel, read and collect books, build Lego, paint gaming miniatures, and write fiction.
